We are located in beautiful Southern Oregon. Nestled in the Majestic mountains and awe inspiring rivers! I have lived here many years and could not dream of living anywhere else!
I began both Breeding and Showing other large, gaurdian breeds successfully some 30 years ago; when my career as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Family Therapist allowed. I got my 1st American Bulldog in the 90's but I believe that with my understanding of genetics and good ol' animal flesh, that I have been able to accomplish much in this time.
I NEVER compromise Temperament and structual soundness! I do NOT believe in the 120 pound Bulldog and will not produce such an animal; it most often destroys the skeletal structure and does not reflect the "Original" Bulldog by any means. I must also say that I do know a breeder or 2 that do raise "a giant " Bulldog and they are impressive and beautiful! Just not what "I" believe in.
I mentioned Temperament above; please understand that you will see this on EVERY breeders website BUT at Wild River American Bulldogs temperament is NOT a sales pitch, it IS a requirment!
I do not line my property with Kennels (no disrespect to those who can do that AND maintain a quality upbringing), I just don't think that they go together well "most" of the time. The grime on my bed tells you who runs this roost! LOL My puppies are born in my home. They do NOT just get a pat on the head when I throw food to them; I make a FULL time job out of raising each litter produced in my yard and even the litters that I co-own with my sister. I spend my days with those little guys for they won't be little long and I relish the time that they are.
I have 4 dogs in my yard, my sister has 2 in hers (we just sold her female to Marcel Harnois for a French Ring Prospect) and we keep Stud rights on the best males that we produce. All of the dogs in our yard are in the top 100th percentile on their PennHips! ALL puppies are precious and I DO NOT produce hmmmmm, garbage, but when a litter is born and there is that "special" pup that steals my heart, I'm on the phone to my sister who has always been willing to follow my lead and brings in the new member of her family. My Sister, Laura Nunn is a great Woman. Some of you have gotten to meet her and without her strenght, hard work and support; we certainly would not be as far along as we are today. My parents, who own 3 dogs out of my yard and are also undying fans of this breed and you will always see them at the shows working as hard as anyone!
We have produced some great and versitile pups! They particiapate in Family Companionship, PSA, Schtzhund, one is in training for French Ring and the same "Hardest Hitting fiend" also visits "Retirement Communities" to try and up lift the spirits of those so alone.
I do not produce more than 2 litters a year and usually just one, sometimes 18 months apart! IT IS ABSOLUTELY A MATTER OF QUALITY AND NOT QUANITY! I do not raise litters to support myself and it makes traveling off the West Coast to shows impossible. So We formed the ABA sanctioned Club "White Water American Bulldogs". We have brought a Show to Sothern Oregon the past 2 years. Unfortunately We provide nearly the only ABA shows left in the U.S.A., making it difficult for most of us to Champion out a dog. Soooo, We are considering bringing in a show from a differant Registry; ABNA, NKC, ABRA, etc.... and would greatly appreciate feedback from other Bulldoggers on what they think would be most beneficial.
If you are considering your 1st American Bulldog, please do your research first and be prepared to stand by that decision for the next 10 - 15 years. They are a great and wonderful breed but they are NOT for the faint of heart! There are many breeders out there, look around. ALWAYS make sure BOTH parents are NCL tested and PennHip's OR OFA'd period! See the paperwork, DO NOT TAKE ANYONES WORD FOR IT! Both parents won't always be owned by the breeder BUT make sure that the Mother is (temperament wise) a dog that you would trust and own OR keep looking!
I ask alot of questions of potential families. I want you to be happy with the puppy you choose and to be honest I want my pup to have a forever home. I DO NOT SELL YARD ORNIMATES! If after all of this, you may be interested in joining the family please feel free to contact me.
