The highest ETHICAL STANDARDS are maintained in every breeding decision. Our Promise to you is proven: After waiting years for a specific stud to use as our kennel foundation, we were heart broken to confirm a diagnosis of mild DJD in Wild River Bo. He was neutered and sold to a pet home.
EACH ANIMAL USED IN OUR BREEDING PROGRAM IS EITHER OFA OR PENNHIP CERTIFIED AND DETERMIND DJD FREE. THE CERTIFICATE OF RESULT IS ALWAYS AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING.
Our commitment to the health of the American Bulldog breed comes first; before emotional attachment or financial loss. Again. We will never knowingly breed an unhealthy dog so, that your bond to your dog, can be a long one that is not plagued by illness.
We have, infact Bred my TOP female; WR Fool's Rush In, "Rusheea" (Since Shasta is retired, Rusheea is Shasta's Granddaughter!) to one of our own OUTSTANDING males; WR marcus I. Brutus "Brutus" knowing that he is in fact an NCL carrier. We tested each and every puppy at 3 days old to identify the puppies; if any, that may also be carriers. Out of the litter we did produce 3 carrier pups.
You could have never convienced me that I would use a carrier male. I reached out to many of my mentors (I myself having been involved in breeding dogs for over 30 years) and debated with them the pros and cons, many explained that when you have a SPECIMEN like Brutus (PennHip .25/.32), temperament, structure, etc........sometimes it's worth it. The puppies that were tested as carriers were sold to pet homes who were fully aware of their status and WERE SPAYED AND NUETERD!!!!
We try to familiarize ourselves with stature and nature original to this breed. While I like the larger boned, large muscled dog ---------I WILL NEVER BREED FOR OR TO THE 120 POUND AMERICAN BULLDOG!
* WE OFFER A LIMITED, QUALITY BREEDING PROGRAM *
I have been involved with raising dogs for over 30 years now and genetics (and any veterinarian) tells you that when you, through breeding, begin to cause great distortions such as significant size change i.e. the English Bulldog AND the 120+ pound AB, too short of a muzzle etc, you destroy the PHYSICAL SOUNDNESS of that breed resulting in the very disorders of the hip; DJD, weak petellas & turned out elbows that are incapable of supporting even a semi-active dog pain free. IT IS NOT A MATTER OF MY OPINION BUT A GENETIC, COLD HARD FACT!!! People say that they love this breed and that they are doing everything in their power to improve upon it -YET- their very breeding programs produce nothing shy of a Mastiff type animal. Want a Mastiff? Buy a Mastiff! Don't ruin this breed by re-creating an animal that already exists!.
These puppies that are the result of this type of breeding practices are going to be more and more often the ones that break YOUR heart when it falls apart physically or mentally and has to be destroyed at as early as 4 months old. Yes, 4 months! I am writing this to you and for you. Spending this time writing this serves me not at all - I already knew it. I am writing this section because of calls I continue to recieve from people who are 1st time American Bulldog owners. 1: had to put her pup down at 4 months old because of crippling Hip Dysplasia and bad Petella's; the woman was heart broken and crying. Another was from a man who had his dog for 1-½ years and because of people breeding unhealthy dogs, this dog was becoming very unstable with people even inside their immediate family. The dog is going to be put down. Calls like these keep coming.
